Pray for a humble life
Since we are just a few weeks into the new year, a common question is, “What are your new year's goals or resolutions for 2022?” This year, I decided not to write down any goals or resolutions right away. I wanted to take a few weeks to dive deep into what the Lord is teaching me right now. Taking these few weeks to soak in what God is teaching me has already been impactful. One of my favorite things I have learned so far comes from the verses below.
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
Prayer Tip #2 - Pray for a humble life
I love the message I got from this passage. Jesus humbly got on the dirty ground to wash the feet of His disciples. He washed the feet of those who betrayed Him. He washed the feet of those who cursed Him. He washed the feet of those who denied Him. Jesus wiped away the dirt, grime, and grit off their feet. He did not pick and choose which disciple’s feet He washed. He washed each of the twelve disciples' feet.
I don’t know about you, but this does not sound like fun. I do not like feet and washing twenty-four feet is not what I have in mind for this year. However, these verses point out that Jesus was humble and served the ones around Him. I pray that no matter what we will deal with this year, we will bend down and wash the feet of the people around us. No matter if someone is unkind, let us wash their feet. Even when someone hurts our feelings, wash their feet. When someone breaks a promise, wash their feet. This is the act of humbly coming to someone and showing them kindness. It is an act of showing compassion.
As we continue into this year, remember that Jesus showed us how to live a humble life. When you experience different situations this year, ask God to help you show humility to others.
