Pray Prayers of Gratitude

We can simply say “thank you” to the barista who made our morning coffee on the way to work. We thank the doctor for the good health report. You thank and praise your children for doing their chores for the week. We can become so used to saying the two simple words, “thank you” that we lose the gratitude behind the words. We may become passive in our thankfulness.

When we fall into the habit of throwing out the words which can be meaningless with the passivity we use them that we can begin to thank the wrong people for God-sized blessings. It is important to thank the barista, doctor, and your children, but we can not get in the habit of forgetting to leave God out of the thank you list. With the right heart posture, it is easy to thank God for the blessings He has given us every day.

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

Colossians 2:6-7

PRAYER TIP # 21 – Pray Prayers of Gratitude

I have found myself in a season of gratitude recently. Springtime brings me joy and peace which makes me grateful. As I was planting my garden, I began feeling extremely grateful. I started thanking God for the many opportunities and blessings He has bestowed upon me. Colossians 2:6-7 points out that we, who are in Christ, have the opportunity to WALK and abound in THANKFULNESS. When we go to God first with our humble hearts of gratitude, He can give us the power to express our thankfulness to others. We can find the meaning behind “thank you” again. It may not be easy to always be thankful, but walking with the Lord will open our eyes to His blessings.

As I mentioned my garden, this is the second garden I have planted this spring. The first garden was not given the proper room to grow and the roots quickly wilted. Just like our plants and gardens, we need room to grow. God has blessed us by giving us the room to grow in our wisdom and gratitude so we can flourish for His kingdom.

Prayer Points -

  • Thank God for all the blessings He has given you. Whether big or small, lift your blessings to Him.

  • Pray for a soul that is full of thanksgiving and praise.

  • Ask God to show you areas in your life where you can grow in your thankfulness.

  • Pray that God will use you to show the gratitude He has given to you to those you encounter.

SUGGESTED PRAYER -

Lord,

I come to You with a thankful and joyful heart. Thank You for the many blessings You have given me. Please help me to keep my heart humble and thankful. I pray that You will show me the areas where I can become more grateful. Lord, help me to grow in wisdom and understanding of Your gratitude. Thank You for Your love and peace that comfort me when it is hard to be thankful. I pray in all circumstances You grow me in the areas I need to grow in the most. Use me to further Your kingdom and show others the gratitude You have given me. Thank You, Lord.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.
