I heard a pastor speak last weekend about love. He said that it would be alarming if he never mentioned his wife or kids when talking about love. He made the point that when we love something so much, we naturally talk about it a lot. This is a true statement. The pastor then challenged the students that were in attendance, to love Jesus so much that they can’t stop talking about Him.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Hearing the pastor say this to the students & reading this verse in my devotion, made me think about how much my fiancé and I talk about each other. When meeting people my fiancé is working with this summer, each of them would say, “I have heard so much about you!” If you are around me for any length of time, I talk about my fiancé a lot as well. This is simply because we are a priority in each other’s lives and we love each other.
The same goes for our relationship with God. If God is a priority in our life and if we truly love Him, we will speak about Him. An example of this happened to me a few weeks ago. I was having a small procedure and had some medication that made me a little loopy and bolder than I am. The doctor was not the most friendly, reassuring, or kind while talking to me. I began playing my worship playlist and asked the doctor and nurse if they had a faith. I proceeded to ask them questions about their faith and very briefly mentioned my Jesus.
This was a moment where I saw an opportunity to show love and tell others about Jesus’ love. At that moment, I needed reassurance and love, so I called upon Jesus. I was not afraid to talk about Him in front of others, not because of the medicine that made me bold, but because I love Jesus with my whole heart that I can’t help, but tell others about Him.
Prayer Tip #24 - This is Love
Prayer Points - Pray over these requests:
Ask God for a love for Him.
Pray that God will give you a spirit of love.
Ask God for boldness to share His love to others.
Suggested Prayer - Pray these words in your heart or out loud:
Thank You for the love that You show me daily. Thank You for Your Word that states that love is patient, love is kind, love is not self-seeking, and love is not easily angered, or defensive. Please give me the boldness to speak Jesus’ name in any situation I am in, regardless of who is around. Allow me to be in situations that give me the opportunities to share Jesus’ love for humankind that He came on this earth to die for each one of us. In Jesus’ mighty Name I pray, Amen!
