Can God be trusted? Trust can be an incredibly difficult thing. It can be built up over the course of years, and in just minutes or seconds, it can crumble to the ground in a million pieces. Trust is hard enough when it comes to looking people in the eyes, seeing them, feeling them, touching them, and knowing that they are there right in front of you. When it comes to our trust in God, it can be even more difficult because, although we see His work all around us, we can't see Him, feel Him, or touch Him. David lays out many of the important aspects of who God is to all who believe and follow Him - one of them being God our Rock.
"I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;" Psalm 18:1-3
Prayer Tip #6 - God Our Rock
David sang this song of deliverance to the Lord on the day He rescued him from the hand of all his enemies, and in particular, from the hand of King Saul. It was a Psalm that expressed David's deep love for God for he confessed, "I love You, Lord. You are my strength." Calling God “my Rock” is a deep affirmation that the God to whom we call out to is dependable and responsive. The Psalms frequently refer to God as a rock. This image emphasizes, first of all, God's strength. A large rock is solid and strong, just like the Lord. Thus, a rock can provide security, a "fortress" and place of "protection" (Psalm 18:2). You can hide behind a rock when being chased after by enemies. Or you can duck under its cover to avoid the heat of the day or a soaking rainstorm. Therefore, a rock can be your "salvation" (Psalm 62:2).
Praise God for being our Rock - our Fortress, our Salvation. Going back to our original question, can God be trusted? The answer simply is yes. He can be trusted in the storm. He can be trusted when you are being sought after by your enemies. He can be trusted in every season, in every situation. Now it's up to you to chose to run to Him. You must make the choice to run to the Rock and allow Him to provide a place of shelter and refuge for you.
