Pray for a heart walking in obedience

Women’s Prayer Team - Week 8

As a senior in college the biggest question I get is “what are my plans after graduation?” For a while my answer always came with a sigh of worry and a little frustration and a “I’m not really sure yet” response. And even though I am still not sure, I wait in peace. I wait patiently for the Father to move my next steps. It is only within God’s timing that I can move in obedience.

In our season of waiting, God is trying to develop us to reflect Him more. We are to never bypass character. Rather, we are to allow God to develop character through our present circumstances. So, at the moment God speaks, we are ready to adjust our position and walk in obedience to where He is leading us.

PRAYER TIP #8 – Pray for a heart ready to walk in obedience.

“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

Romans 5:3-5

Even if your present circumstance may not be causing sufferings, there is still great application in these verses. In every season of life the Lord is faithful to produce endurance, character, and hope within us. It is through a love relationship with the Father that God has poured love into our hearts. The response to having a love relationship with the Lord should be obedience.

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!"

Matthew 25:21

Our obedience to God is a way to show an outward expression of love to our Heavenly Father. Even in the waiting, the mundane tasks of life, and the seasons of pain, the Father is at work! God is using your present circumstances to mold your future responses. God is using your present circumstances to develop character. Our life on earth should be used to become acquainted with the Father, so we may develop our character in His likeness. It is through our present circumstances and love relationship with the Father, that we may be better equipped to adjust our lives when we hear God calling us to walk in obedience. We must know the Father in order to recognize His voice.

These truths have been an encouragement to me, while I am in a season of waiting. I have been reminded to trust the Father’s timing, to develop my character in His likeness, and be ready to adjust my life when He reveals himself! So in my season of waiting, I am praying the Father would grow my heart towards obedience. I am praying God would develop my character in the waiting. I challenge you to do the same in whatever season you are in. Be encouraged that whatever season you are in God is still at work and His timing is always sovereign.

Prayer Points:

  • Lord, help me to develop my character in Your likeness.

  • Lord, prepare my heart to respond in obedience when You reveal Yourself to me.

  • Lord, help me to stay focused on my love relationship with You.

  • Lord, thank You for always being at work in my life.

  • Lord, I thank You for your goodness and grace in every season!

Suggested Prayer - Pray these words in your heart or out loud:

Heavenly Father,

I thank You for who You are and who You have created me to be. Thank You for offering a personal love relationship with me. Father, I pray You would develop my character to reflect You and Your likeness more. Jesus, in every season of my life, may You develop endurance, hope, and character with in me. Lord, prepare my heart to respond in obedience when You reveal Yourself to me. Father, help me to adjust my life to Your timing. Help me to trust in Your sovereign ways. Jesus I thank You for reigning on the throne!

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
