As far back as I can recall, I remember saying this prayer at meal time. The memorized prayer went something like this, and it may be familiar to you too:
God is great, God is good
Let us thank Him for our food.
By His hands we all are fed,
Thank You, Lord, for our daily bread. Amen.
My Mom taught me this when I was small, and I recited it faithfully for each meal for many years as a child, even before I understood what the words truly meant.
PRAYER TIP #31 - Remember that the Lord is Good!
Psalm 100:5
"For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations."
Recently, I read a book together with a group of close friends and this quote about God's love and goodness really stuck with me:
“God was thinking of you even before He made the world.
In fact, that’s why He created it! God designed this planet’s environment
just so we could live in it. We are the focus of His love and
the most valuable of all His creation.”
Whoa! That's good stuff! God is so good to consider us before we even took our first breath. He created this world for us. Every oxygen-giving plant, the very atmosphere we live in, everything was created with you and me in mind. That is incredible!
This temporal life that we live throws so many things at us that can cause us to forget God's goodness. A diagnosis that seems to come out of nowhere - a loss of employment that is unmerited - destruction of a relationship that we thought was unshakeable - the list could literally go on and on. With so much negative and difficult things that our finite lives contain, let us not forget how truly good God is even still.
Prayer Points - (Pray over these requests)
Thank the Lord for the gift of your salvation and for the hope of heaven.
Thank the Lord for the gift of waking up this morning to a new day.
Thank the Lord for for the blessings that are seeable, and for ones that cannot be seen.
I leave you today with several words to a song we sing from time to time at Mid-Way -
"The Goodness of God". It is my absolute favorite worship song because the words speak to my heart so much, and it's my prayer that they do to yours as well.
Pray these words in your heart, out loud, or proclaim them in song to our good, good Father:
I, (insert your name here) love You, Lord.
For Your mercy never fails me.
All my days, I've been held in Your hands.
From the moment that I wake up,
Until I lay my head, I will sing of the goodness of God!
Because, all my life, You have been faithful.
All my life, You have been so, so good!
With every breath that I am able,
I will sing of the goodness of God!
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Share about God's goodness in your own life with someone this week - you will never regret it!
