Choose Jesus Over the World

Women’s Prayer Team - Week 2

One of the gifts that I believe the Lord has given me is relatability due to my testimony. I didn't grow up in a God fearing household: I was watching "R" rated movies at the age of 10, I started cussing in middle school and I joined a sorority in college so I could go to parties. So as you can imagine, it is easy for me to relate to some of the things my non-believer friends go through. The Lord saved me later on in college, but for the majority of my life I was living for the world. As I began to embark on this new life with Christ, I quickly found out that I wasn't necessarily called to be relatable but set apart.

PRAYER TIP #2 – Pray for a desire to choose Jesus over the world.

If you get the chance you should look up "Bible Verses about being relatable." You won't find really any that support being relatable to the world. However, if you look up "Bible Verses about being set apart" you will find over 100. Why am I bringing this up? Last week at the Passion Conference I was reminded of a convicting truth: You cannot have one foot in the world and one foot that's "all in" for Christ. You either have both feet in or you will burn out trying to be apart of two worlds.

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

John 15:19

We have truly been bought at a price by Christ and chosen by Him, we are called to live different than the rest of the world. I still believe that the Lord uses my testimony to allow me to build relationships with people who maybe others couldn't as well. I still try to be kind and empathetic, but my goal is no longer to be relatable but to be like Jesus.

My hope for us this year is that we no longer try to be of the world and of Christ, because they do not coexist. That we don't have one foot in the door and one foot out due to wanting to make Christianity "attractive" when Jesus' love is way more appealing than my relational skills. The year just started which means it's filled with new opportunities to grow in Christ: let us be bold in choosing Christ over the world in every area of our life.

Prayer Points:

  • Lord, thank You for choosing to save me from my sin.

  • Lord, help me to give every area of my life to You.

  • Lord, convict me of the areas that are influencing me more than You.

  • Lord, allow there to be more of You and less of me in my life.

Suggested Prayer - Pray these words in your heart or out loud:

Dear Father,

Thank You for choosing me. Thank You for the price You paid so that I could be in relationship with You. Help me to remember The Cross and all that it stands for. I pray that it would move me to action and repentance. Lord, I ask that I truly would be all in for You, and that I would choose You over the desires of this world no matter how appealing they might be. Allow me to be strong, God. Help me to remember that although I live in the world, I am not of it. Lord, I ask that You would give me the boldness to proclaim Your name wherever I go this year. In Jesus' name, Amen.

In Christ,
