None Like Him

What if we not only had head knowledge that we were “deeply valued and set apart by God” but what if we actually lived like we have been “set apart”? How would that change your life and make an impact on those around you?

In Psalm 8~ David is taking in the grandeur of God’s creation and marveling at the fact that out of all God’s creation, man is the one that He is mindful of. I don’t know about you but there are times when the circumstances of this life can cause us to feel forgotten or unseen. David often admits to these feelings in the Psalms and then he is reminded of

God’s mindfulness over him and he goes into worship and awe. I want you to know that God is not only active in every detail of our lives but He actually thinks about you.

"When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the

stars, which you have set in place. What is man, that thou art mindful of

him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a

little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor."

Psalm 8:3-5

Despite our smallness in the grand scheme of creation, we are deeply valued by God and are actively in His thoughts. Mindfulness, implies a deep, ongoing awareness, not just a momentary thought but one that continually lingers.

"How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is

the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in

number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You."

Psalm 139:17-18

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord,

thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a hope and a future."

Jeremiah 29:11

"Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works which You have

done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in

order; If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can

be numbered."

Psalm 40:5

Our Creator not only thinks about us but the Bible teaches that He knows us so deeply that He is aware of our every thought and our every move and yet, His love for me never wavers. There is nothing in our lives that goes unseen by God. I am in awe that God knows the depths of my heart and yet He still loves me the same.

The Psalmist said~ "O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar."

Psalm 139:1-2

My husband and I recently had the opportunity to travel to San Diego for a work / anniversary trip. It was my first trip to California. I had no idea what to expect. I was immediately captivated by the beauty and majesty of God’s creation before we ever stepped foot on land. Anytime we fly, I always pick the window seat, so I can soak in all the views. As we were taking our descent over San Diego and getting ready to land, I remember looking out and in that moment feeling very small from my view above. I could see the landscape of the rolling mountains, valleys and the ocean views and if I really looked hard, the closer we got to the ground, I could make out a few cars that looked like the size of my grand boys matchbox cars. All I could think about in that moment, was how small I felt in comparison to God’s creation and yet He calls us His prized possession. This truth kept replaying in my mind, that out of all creation, the God of the Universe, King of Kings and Lord of Lord has set me a part for the good plans He planned for me long ago. Majestic, yet such a personal and loving Father.

"For you are a holy people, who belong to the Lord your God. Of all the

people on earth, the Lord your God has chosen you to be his own special

treasure.”

Deuteronomy 7:6

Throughout our trip I kept being reminded of how the heavens declare the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Psalm 19:1

I was enamored by all the different trees, shrubs and flowers in bloom that I had never seen before. There was beauty to behold at every turn. We took a drive up the pacific coast and on one side were majestic mountain terrains and one the other, breathtaking blue ocean views. We went on a whale watching cruise and as we ventured out to sea, I was mesmerized by the captain explaining how we were crossing over a canyon that plunged over 1,300 ft deep into the deep ocean beneath us. He explained how the canyons create the perfect feeding ground that pulls up nutrient-rich waters to the surface for dolphin, porpoises, fish and whales to feed on. We saw a massive amount of dolphins and sea lions, no whales this trip but I will never forget the reminder of God’s great care over all His creation both big and small, and yet how much more He cares for us. He is aware of every single detail. He says that the very hairs on our head are numbered. If even one tiny hair falls out, our God knows.

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is

forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows."

Luke 12:6-7

I will never forget Pastor Upchurch saying that the richest man in the world could not feed all the birds and yet God feeds them each and every day. To think that God did not need me but yet He desired to make us ~ His dwelling place, so He sent His only Son for you and for me. Our little small dwellings, house the very spirit of God and we are suppose to represent Him to the world around us. He is not a distant God but one who calls me, His Friend. I recently read that in order to develop a deep friendship, you will need to spend a minimum of 200 hrs with that person. I believe that is true of our relationship with God as well. I have come to learn that the more time I spend with Him, the more I get to know Him and the more my faith and trust grows in Him.

Prayer tip: Ask God to give you eyes to see how valuable you are to Him and that you would live that out to the world around you.

Prayer points:

~ Pray for God to reveal Himself to You in a new way each day. He longs to be known by  you. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your Word.~Psalm 119:18

~ Confess to God anything that that is holding you back from receiving His love for you  and ask Him to reveal any lies you may be believing.

~ Ask God to sear His Truth to your soul so that it’s not just head knowledge but that it  becomes real and personal to YOU.

~ Thank God for His Indescribable Love over you and ask Him to overflow that love into  others.

I want to leave you with an old hymn that plays over in my head about the love of God. It was one of my father-in-laws favorite songs when I was growing up and now I know why:

Could we with ink the ocean fill,

And were the skies of parchment made-up

Were every stalk on earth a quill,

And every man a scribe by trade;

To write the love of God above

Would drain the ocean dry;

Not could the scroll contain the whole,

Through stretched from sky to sky.

The more I learn about God, the more I realize that I do not know. He is unsearchable. Keep searching for Him like a hidden treasure in a field for there is truly None Like Him!!

Father, there is no one like you! Thank you for your indescribable love. For choosing me before the beginning of time to be Your’s. You are such a personal and loving Father. I am in awe that out of all creation, you want to dwell with us. When I come before you, I am reminded how small I am and yet how loved I am. That you bend down your ear to hear from me is astonishing. Thank you for pursing me all the days of my life. Enlarge my heart for you and open my eyes to see wondrous things in Your Word. Break down any barriers that may be keeping me from stepping into all that you have for me. When I am feeling overwhelmed, remind me of how you care for the birds and how much more valuable we are to you. Grow my faith and trust in you and may I decrease and you increase. May I fall more in love with you each day and may your love overflow from me into others. I owe my life to you. I’m so thankful that I am yours and you are mine. May I never get over that Truth. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
