Prayer is essential, especially now. There is so much to pray for in our own personal lives, including those impacted by the recent hurricanes, those who have lost loved ones, those who have been displaced, lost jobs and homes. There are those who are praying for friends and family members who are far from God. November 5th is coming soon, as we are only 18 days away from the 2024 Presidential election. We need God and His mighty hand to do a work in our city, state, and nation. We need the Lord’s hand of protection over our marriages, homes, children, and families. Prayer is the true, deep, work of a Christian. Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, said, “Prayer is not preparation for the battle, it is the battle.” Prayer invites God to come and work in our lives, circumstances, and hearts. Prayer is acknowledging that God is there and asking for His divine help.
Prayer doesn’t just fuel the ministry. Prayer is the ministry.
Prayer is a form of humility. When we pray, we are essentially telling God that we need His divine help, and we can’t do this life without Him and His blessings on us. Let’s keep doing the ESSENTIAL work of the ministry!
John 14:13-14
“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the
Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name,
I will do it.”
John 15:16
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you
that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that
whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
John 16:23-24
“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I
say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
Why is it important to pray in Jesus’ Name? Jesus taught His disciples to pray to the Father, in His Name, because there is power in His name. When we go before God in prayer, we should ask for our requests in Jesus’ name and in His authority. We don’t just add “in Jesus’ name” to the end of our prayers as a magic formula. We ask “In Jesus’ Name” in faith, remembering His death on the cross, shed blood, and resurrection. Jesus
defeated death, hell, and the grave. He has conquered our greatest enemies, redeemed us and has given us the gift of eternal life. To pray in Jesus’ Name is to honestly desire His plan to come to pass in our lives and for God to be glorified. Our prayer requests should be in alignment with Scripture and in accordance with God’s will.
Ask yourself the following Questions:
If this prayer is answered, will it bring glory to God?
What are my motives for this prayer request?
Am I asking for something that will not bring glory to God?
Do I truly want the Lord’s will to be done, even above my own desires?
We invoke Jesus’ powerful Name in our prayers because of His blood that was shed on our account that has given us access to God the Father. We don’t do this because of tradition, or out of repetition, but because we truly believe that there is power in Jesus’ Name.
Philippians 2:10
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven,
and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,”
This verse reminds us that everything must bow and yield to the Lordship of Jesus. When we simply say His Name, and declare His sovereignty over a situation, in faith, we can be assured that He goes to work on our behalf!
Prayer Points-
Father God, we ask in Jesus Name, that You would be exalted in all that we do at
Mid-Way Baptist Church.
Lord, we ask that You give divine wisdom and discernment to Pastor Grant, other Pastors, Staff, and church leadership as we endeavor to serve Him.
JESUS, we believe that there is power in Your Name because of Your shed blood on the cross, and resurrection from the grave.
Lord, we ask You to provide protection against the enemy for our staff and entire church family, through Jesus’ precious blood.
God, we ask You to protect and strengthen each marriage in our church family, and for the love, respect, and health of each marriage to grow and flourish during this time.
Dear God,
I come before You in the mighty Name of Jesus, the Name above all Names. And I humbly ask that You give Wisdom to Pastor Grant, our other Pastors, staff, and our church leadership in every area as they lead our church to honor You. Please give them discernment and peace as we move forward step by step into the future You have for us as a church.
Lord, we pray the precious blood of Jesus over each and every member of
the Mid-Way Church family. Lord, please protect them from the schemes of the enemy, in the Name of Jesus.
God, we also ask for supernatural protection for each marriage that is represented in our church family. We know that the enemy desires to steal, kill and destroy, and we come against him with the blood of Jesus and the cross of Calvary, asking You Lord to intervene in our marriages. Please bless each married couple, renew their love and respect for one another. Please help each marriage to be healthy and loving, a picture of Your love
for the Church. Lord, let each marriage grow and flourish so that You may be glorified.
I ask all this in the Name of Jesus- the Name above all Names.
Amen.
In Christ Alone,
Michelle Staubs
