Remember the Lord's Goodness

Women’s Prayer Team - Week 44

What a blessing it was to be in the room for Ladies Christmas Gathering 2022! This was my first time being able to attend this event and I am so thankful I was there. The evening was full of fellowship, delicious sweets, and beautiful worship. This year’s theme was “Good Gifts,” and our pastor's wife, Michelle, gave a devotion on many of the Good Gifts our Heavenly Father gives to us.

PRAYER TIP #44 – Remember the Lord's Goodness

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the

Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

James 1:17

One part of the night that moved my heart was the video testimony from a woman named Sybil in our church. After the devotion, a video was played of Sybil speaking and sharing her story. She began to talk about how as a teenager, some wrong decisions led her to a place where she was unmarried and pregnant. She spoke of how she felt helpless and without options and ended up having an abortion. Through tears, Sybil shared of how it completely broke her heart—it was a decision that could not be unmade. Sybil was at rock bottom—yet it is here that the Lord gently grabbed ahold of her heart. She explained how she repented and asked the Lord for His forgiveness. She shared that no matter your past, you can be forgiven and find freedom in Jesus Christ—what a miraculous gift that we do not deserve. Our Father sees and knows our deepest hurts, our deepest regrets, and our deepest mistakes, and still wants to know us and forgive us. What a gift of love that the Father has bestowed upon us! That no matter our past, we can be called a child of God!

See what kind of love the Father has given to us,

that we should be called children of God; and so we are.

1 John 3:1

Sybil’s story is not a glamorous story—but it is a GOOD one. Our Father is a Giver of Grace, and Sybil’s story is a testament to that. Sometimes, for those who have grown up in church or have been going for many years, we can almost grow numb to the mercy and grace of our God. After going to the Ladies Christmas Gathering, my heart was reminded of just how good God is. He is a faithful Father, a Friend, and the Giver of good gifts. I pray that Sybil’s story blessed and encouraged you as much as it did me. What a reminder of the character of our God—the one who truly gives good to us.

Yes, the Lord will give what is good.

Psalm 85:12

Ladies Christmas Gathering to me was a reminder of God’s character. It was a reason to thank God. To trust Him with my deep hurts and deep sins. I pray this email encourages you to do the same!

Prayer Points:

  • Lord, thank You for being good.

  • Lord, I pray You would remind me of the good gifts you’ve given to me.

  • Jesus, thank You for giving yourself up for me.

  • God, I thank You for Your mercy—that You take my sins as far as the east is from the west.

  • Father, help me to trust You with every part of me—even the pieces of my heart that I am ashamed of.

Suggested Prayer - Pray these words in your heart or out loud:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being always, only good. Thank You for being the Giver of Grace, the God who sees, and for giving Your Son for me. I pray You would remind me to bring my past to You. Help me to receive Your grace and forgiveness, to walk in freedom. Remind me that You take broken things and make them beautiful, that You are the God of Restoration. Thank You for Your good gifts to me.

In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

Your friend,

Madison Kirk
