Depend on God

Updated: Jul 5, 2024

My name is Kayla Horne and I have been attending Mid-Way for around eight years. I grew up in refuge and have recently finished my first year of college at Liberty University. I am majoring in Global Studies in hopes of Lord willing, one day becoming a missionary. Seeing the Lord’s faithfulness at Mid-Way has given me a new love and passion for ministry and missions. I am interning here at Mid-Way this summer and it has truly been a blessing.

Today I want to share with you all something the Lord has laid on my heart. I often struggle with finding purpose in where God has me right now and I wanted to share how the Lord has helped me with where He has me. I also wanted to encourage you all of the grace found in Jesus Christ and the freedom we have by depending on Him.

"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which

God prepared in advance for us to do."

Ephesians 2:10

"And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that

the power of Christ may rest upon me."

2 Corinthians 12:9

"You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you. Trust in the Lord forever, because in the Lord , the Lord himself,

is an everlasting rock!"

Isaiah 26:3-4

A lot of times as women, it can be difficult to see our purpose in the midst of our busy everyday schedules. It can be hard to find strength when we are caught up in our weaknesses. Our spirits desire a daily dependence on the Lord.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us that God created us in Christ Jesus to do good works. But the verse doesn't end there; it says that God has chosen those good works in advance for us to do. Wherever you find yourself today, whatever good works the Lord has placed before you, take heart in knowing that God has prepared those in advance for you to do. Whether it is being a mom, working, being a student, a daughter, a sister, a grandmother, a friend; God has prepared this season of life for you, in advance!

Do you ever wake up after a full night of rest, or maybe even not a full night, and just feel exhausted and weak? God promises us in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that “His grace is sufficient”. When we live in this promise and take advantage of Christ’s sufficiency in our lives it takes the pressure off. You no longer have to strive. You no longer have to paddle to keep your head above water. The verse continues to say that Christ’s power is perfected in weakness.  So this not only means that Christ’s grace is sufficient for you but it also means that He doesn't mind His grace covering every area of your life because His grace is perfected in your weakness. You can rest in Christ’s grace knowing that it is sufficient for every shortcoming you may feel you have.

As a woman who loves control, I struggle to be dependent on others, but especially on God. “I cannot see God so therefore how can I depend on Him?” is a lie I often find myself thinking. However, Isaiah 26:3 says that He will keep the mind that is dependent on Him in perfect peace. Depending on God is a daily battle. Our flesh doesn't want to depend on something we cannot see. But God blesses a mind that is dependent on Him. Challenge yourself this week to be more dependent on God: for strength, for peace, for wisdom, for your every breath. We trust that God is going to provide the air for our lungs so let's depend on Him for everything we need in life.

I encourage you to depend on Christ’s grace and strength more as you go throughout your week. You are not alone in the struggle of being a mom, wife, daughter, sister, a grandmother, or a friend. God has prepared you and the works you are doing right now, so take heart in His strength, for He has prepared this season for you!

Prayer Points:

  • Lord, help me to see the season You have prepared in advance for me right now and help me to be a good steward of it.

  • Lord, help me to remember that Your grace is sufficient for me. Remind me of that when I become weak.

  • Lord, let me be more dependent on You. Show me areas where I can depend more on You.

  • Lord, I pray I would depend on your grace and strength as I am in the midst of the place You have prepared for me.

Lord,

Thank You for being all sufficient. Thank You for always providing for us and hearing our cries for help. I pray I would depend more on You for everything. I pray I would know that my strength comes from You. Please help me to see the season You have me in as a blessing that You have prepared specifically for me in advance. Lord, when I am weak, remind me that You are strong. Help me to rest in Your grace and strength this week.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Your Friend,

Kayla Horne
