Pray for Wisdom - 4.23.21

As we are going through our day, we often say prayers to God to help us in times of need, provide for us, and protect our children. As we rush though our day, we are thinking of the immediate needs of ourselves and our families. These are good prayers, and it's so important to seek God for them. But there is one request that is so easy to forget, but it's way more valuable than we think! This simple request shines out above them all - praying for Wisdom!

Prayer Tip #17 - Pray for Wisdom

Proverbs 2:6

“For the Lord gives wisdom;

From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;”

Maybe you remember the account of King Solomon in 1 Kings 3. God spoke to him in a dream and told Solomon that he could ask for anything. Solomon's request has been an example for us through the ages. Solomon's reply is found in 1 Kings 3:9,"Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil."

Solomon acknowledged that he needed wisdom to faithfully rule over God's chosen people. He needed discernment, an inner wisdom that only comes from God. Because Solomon asked for wisdom, God blessed him in other ways that far exceeded anything he could have dreamed of. 2 Chronicles 1:12 tells us, "Wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.” This shows us that with wisdom, comes many other blessings. Godly wisdom is the gift that keeps on giving.

How can we ask for wisdom? First, we must recognize that God is the giver of all wisdom. It's from Him that true discernment flows. We must also acknowledge, in humility, that we NEED wisdom. Yes, we are in desperate need of godly wisdom day by day, and hour by hour. Next, we must ask God for wisdom. Pray to Him and ask Him to grant you the wisdom you need in every circumstance you are facing right now. Be specific and trust that God will show you the right path.

Proverbs 8:10-11

"Receive my instruction, and not silver,

And knowledge rather than choice gold;

For wisdom is better than rubies,

And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her."

When we truly understand the value of wisdom, we will be on a mission to seek God for it. Godly wisdom is like a rare treasure, more precious than silver, gold and rubies. Why not ask God to give you wisdom today?
