Women's Prayer Team - Week #20
My grandparents on my dad’s side of the family became believers later in life. One day they got a knock on the door and a man invited them to a church down the road. They went, became Christians, and their lives were forever changed. My grandparents raised my dad in a godly home, and through that, he heard the gospel and became a Christian. I tell this story to show how God used one invitation to church to change the trajectory of my grandparents’ lives, and later down the road, even my own life!
Prayer Tip # 20 – Pray that the Lord will give you the
courage to invite three people to Church this week.
“Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation”
Mark 16:15
“Preach the gospel at all times; when necessary, use words”
-St. Francis
When was the last time that you invited someone that you randomly interacted with to Church? Is it intimidating Yes, and is it awkward sometimes, but one of our commands here on earth is to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). I want to admit that this is something outside of my comfort zone. Even if I know that I will most likely never see that person again I can still shy away from saying something. I will even feel convicted by the Holy Spirit to say something, but let pride and fear stand in my way.
I was reading an article by The Porch (A Young Adults ministry at Watermark Church in Texas), that talks about the famous quote by St. Francis “Preach the Gospel at all times; when necessary, use words”. With people, we know we can preach the Gospel with our actions. However, with people we don’t know, how do we share the Gospel? We share the Gospel through our words . A part of the article that challenged me and convicted my heart says this. “Similarly, if we say we are going to share our faith more, there is always a decision. Should I share my faith with this co-worker, with this barista, with this neighbor? We are always trying to hear some prompting from the Holy Spirit, as if God might be jumping up and down in the corner, waving His arms and shouting, “NO, DON’T TELL THIS GUY ABOUT ME!” My point is this: if you commit to sharing your faith wherever you go, with whomever you talk to, then there is no decision to be made. It also gets easier, and you will get better at it with practice.”
This week I want to challenge us to do something that might be outside our comfort zone. On Sunday, let’s all take 3 invite cards (they are located all across Mid-Way's campus). Place them in a spot that can be easily accessed whether that be your purse or your car. Let’s each give out three invite cards to someone that we encounter this week. If just 10 of us decided to step outside of our comfort zone and do this, that will be 30 people that we will have invited to Church by the next week! Let’s hold each other accountable to step outside our comfort zone for the Gospel! Like my grandparent’s story, an invite to Church can be used in God’s overarching plan for that person’s life. I know it can be hard, uncomfortable, and scary but the more we do it the easier it gets! Let's invite 30 people to Church next week!
Prayer Points: Please pray over these requests:
Thank you, Lord, for the Gospel, that you sent your Son to die for me.
Lord bring someone in my path this week that I can invite to Church.
Give me the courage to share the Gospel with not just the people that I know, but even the people that I don’t know.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the gift of the Gospel. Thank you so that I can share this gift freely with others. Lord, help me this week to have courage and be bold for the Gospel. Lord, help me to set aside my pride and fear, for the gospel. Lord put people in my path that need to be invited to Church. Lord, I know that it is not me working, but you at work through me. Help me to be pushed outside of my comfort zone. I love you Lord, and want to live my life for you.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
In Christ,
Kayla Shadle
